He entered politics  in 1994 as the Vice  President of the UNP Youth League (Yowun Peramuna) of the Kesbewa  Electorate, when the shadows  of the party’s election defeat  in that year were still haunting, by following in the foot steps of his father late Mr. Somasiri  Padukka  and his father’s elder brother  late Mr. Siripala Padukka. He associated Mr. Sirinal De Mel  from his school  days and it was  Mr. Sirinal de Mel’s invitation for him to take up to politics and the strong support  and encouragement received by him from  the people  that finally made him make up his  mind.

He ha his primary education at the Somaweera  Chandrasiri  Vidyalaya  and joined the Thurstan College Colombo for his secondary  education. In college he won  the  college Rugby Football colours  for the performances in 1987 – 1990.He was a Prefect  and  the secretary  of the school Sinhala Literary Association .These extra curricular activities in addition to his sound education at the above school s moulded  his career in politics  during the past several years.

On leaving school he joined  Air  Lanka  as a Cargo Assistant. Thereafter he  was  a  Credit Officer at a commercial bank ,an investment adviser for a Stock  Brokering  Firm in the Stock Exchange ,whilst gaining  in Marketing, Banking, Credit Management  and  a  Master In Business Administration.

In politics he became the youngest  Pradeshiya  Sabha  member who obtained the highest  preferential votes in 1997 and became the Vice Chairman of the Kesbewa  Pradeshiya  Sabha in 2002.Thereafter he was elected  as a  member  of  Western  Provincial Council in 2004 and  re-elected  in 2009, and he is the Present UNP Electoral Organizer for the Kesbewa Electorate. Taking  up the challenges at present ,against all odds he is in the  course of successfully rebuilding and revamping the party organization in the electorate at grass roots level .By and by more  people have realized the futility of running  behind a mirage and they are rallying  behind  the UNP which is the party far all seasons. In this backdrop  he has started the Kesbewa Development  plan with the assistants of the professional’s  in the area.

During the last  five  years whilst developing  contacts with the people  of other electorates. He has the unfailing friend of the people of Kesbewa. He has the distinction  of declaring that he has not made politics a vocation to earn money. Instead  with true dedication, he has served not only the people of Kesbewa  but also the people of  neighboring  electorates as well.

Services   rendered  by him during the ensuing period by making invaluable  contributions  on education as an Advisory Committee member of the council in Education and Local Government is outstanding. People  have made useful l evaluation  of the services  rendered by NIroshan Padukka community service which was  inaugurated to assist in education and Health Services.

Whilst appreciating the encouragement assistance and support rendered to him by the community in  difficult times during he has mentioned earlier, never resorted to corruption, coercion, force, thuggery or unlawful  means in achieving political victories. It has been a peaceful, lawful and uncorrupted campaign to achieve goals. This is the political victory he has gained and he is happy on it.
